Okay let's go ....
The first thing French that comes to my mind is the French Gypsy or "Mignon" ... I love these old postcards and images ... I use them for artwork, jewelry, and even price tags ... goes perfectly with "Gypsy Brocante"
After a bit of on-line research, I learned that these lovely ladies originated from an opera ...
"Mignon" is a French opera, by Ambroise Thomas, first performed at the Opera Comique in Paris in 1866, based on Goethe's story of a little gypsy girl.
The English translation of "Mignon" simply means pretty or dainty .... not Gypsy.
Mignon was the name of the gypsy girl from the opera.

Mignon postcards were popular with the Victorians and Edwardians. Often times Mignon appears with her mandolin or guitar ... praying ... or longing for her home and lover.
I love their dresses, fabrics, and especially their bags ... an inspiration to me when I design my own!

How lovely are these two below? ... I love the writing on the backs ... very romantic.

I hope you've enjoyed this little history lesson of the French "Mignon" ... I can't wait to see what Frenchness you have to share with all of us each week! Don't forget to grab a button and spread the word

... the more the merrier.

The winner of the iHome by random selection is an anonymous visitor vanessau.  Congratulations!  We will contact you for shipping information.  Thank you so much everyone for checking out our new smartphone app!

au revoir!
